Julie Comnick’s paintings and drawings engage the pictorial languages of representation and narration to pose questions about social circumstances and practices. Her exhibition record includes solo shows nationally at contemporary venues such as Mesa Contemporary Art Museum, Mesa AZ; Space Gallery, Denver, CO; The Gallery at Flashpoint, Washington, DC; Zg Gallery, Chicago IL; and Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven, CT; group exhibitions internationally; and reviews in prominent publications such as the Washington Post, Chicago Sun Times, and Dialogue Magazine. Her work has been supported by grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
Julie received her MFA in Painting from Montana State University in 2001 and her BA from The Evergreen State College in 1995. She currently lives in Prescott, Arizona, where she is a member of the Arts and Letters faculty at Prescott College and teaches Studio Arts courses in painting, drawing, public art and art theory. She has also worked as an Exhibits Preparator and Art Conservator in Chicago, and co-founded a cooperative gallery in Seattle. She has traveled extensively in Spain, Mexico and Portugal.
